What is the Chico Permaculture Guild (CPG)? The CPG was started in 2009 by permaculture design course graduates and is still operating today as an education program of ES. It is a group that meets bi-monthly to network and learn about permaculture. There are educational topics discussed at each Gathering as well as a potluck and share the surplus swap. The topics are all permaculture based such as permaculture design, water harvesting, forest gardening, soil food web, and more.
What is a PermaBlitz?
- FREE events that are open to the public, where you learn new skills, share food, get some exercise and have fun
- Implement permaculture systems in private yards, schools, public spaces and anywhere else that can be turned into a water conserving food oasis
What is the Chico Seed Lending Library and how do I join or get seeds? The Chico Seed Lending Library is volunteer run seed library located within the Chico Branch of the Butte County Library. It’s a collection of seeds made available to public free of charge and operated much like a book library –you borrow seed, grow out the seed, harvest seed from healthy plants and bring your surplus seed back to the seed library. The goal is to educate people about seed saving, gardening, permaculture, and current topics and issues in agriculture. To become a member you need to be a California library card-holder (which is free) and fill out the two page form located at the seed library area. The library is open the same hours as the Chico Branch library. We have ‘Lettuce Get Together’ work parties the second Tuesday of every month from 4:30 to 7:30 pm where we package up new seed for members to borrow and discuss seasonal gardening and seed saving topics.
How can I become involved with Earthshed Solutions? There are several ways to become involved: attend or volunteer to help with CPG Gatherings, attend or volunteer at the HOWs (Hands On Workshops) or PermaBlitzes, attend or volunteer with Chico Seed Lending Library (CSLL) at the monthly ‘Lettuce Get Together’, become a committee member, volunteer to help with fundraising events, or become a board member.
